Making MapsThis week we learned all about maps. We explored various types of maps and learned how to use a compass to indicate the direction. We then drew a detailed "treasure map" of our classroom, using 2D shapes, and hid a golden coin for our K1/K2 buddies to find. Locating the hidden treasures was a big success using our detailed directions and maps as a guide. Building BridgesDuring science, we learned of children in Columbia who faced a problem--due to dangerous terrain, lack of infrastructure, they had to use a zip line to get to school. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wh0o2zNOx8Y We thought about various solutions to the problem, and decided that building a bridge above the steep canyon was a good solution. We started our exploration by building various bridges using different building material. We were then asked to test the stability of our designs by making the the bridges stood firm. We plan on researching further into bridges and extending our own designs as the weeks progress.
