We have enjoyed our first full week in school this week and have got stuck into our learning. In Literacy, we have been reminding ourselves of Read to Self and building up our stamina to be able to focus on a book for a given amount of time. We have talked about choosing a 'good fit book'. This is a book that is not too hard and not too easy, but just right! This will enable the students to choose a book that is interesting to them and that they will be able to understand. We have also been looking at writing recounts and have explored both non fiction and fiction examples of this.
In our Unit of Inquiry, the children were asked to work as a team to build a house out of lollypop sticks but with one important rule - no talking! The children managed to use actions and body language to communicate, however, when asked to reflect, they expressed that it was frustrating not being able to share their ideas or opinions throughout the task. They then repeated the activity but this time they were allowed to talk. They expressed that this was easier to be able to work as a team and that they were happier with the houses they built the second time round. Can you tell which ones are which?
In Math this week we have been exploring number lines and hundred squares to help us think about ordering numbers and place value. We identified patterns in the tens and units columns and used this knowledge to piece together pieces of a hundred square that had been broken up.
On Wednesday 24th August, we invite you to come and meet us between 5.30pm and 7.30pm where we will share some information about Grade 2. I look forward to seeing many of you then.
Grade 2.1 are a class of 7 and 8 year old students who attend ISS International School in Singapore. We learn together and play together and enjoy sharing our discoveries with you.
